Accutane was a drug to treat severe acne that was introduced in 1982, and roughly thirteen million people are reported to have taken this drug. In 2009, Hoffman-LaRoche discontinued the manufacturing of the drug, claiming profit losses due to the cheaper generic brands on the market.
At first, it seemed to be a miracle drug for severe acne sufferers. It was quite effective and relatively quick. In just a few months time severe acne, in many patients, was cleared up. It acts as an oil gland inhibitor, it depleted the skin of oils and moisture. Of course, it also depleted certain other parts of the body of moisture also.
Unfortunately, some users found that it had some very severe side effects that Roche failed to report. Side effects such as aggressive behavior, suicidal tendencies, back and joint pain, birth defects and miscarriages, seizures, and liver damage have been reported in some former users of this miracle drug.
